Yoga Koh Phangan guide: Srithanu, the island's yoga capital
Where to practise in Srithanu and around the west coast: drop-in shalas, retreats, teacher trainings and how to plan a yoga week.

The short answer: the best place for yoga Koh Phangan has to offer is Srithanu, a small village on the west coast where shalas, retreat centres, plant-based cafés and juice bars sit within a few minutes of each other. You can drop in to a class most mornings for roughly 250 to 400 THB, join a structured retreat or train as a teacher. Stay nearby on the quiet west coast and you can practise every day without ever needing a long drive.
We live and work five minutes from Srithanu, and many of our guests come for exactly this. Below are the schools we could verify as of October 2026, what each is like, and how to plan a yoga week on the island.
Yoga Koh Phangan: why Srithanu is the capital
Koh Phangan has been drawing yoga students for more than two decades, and the scene grew up around Srithanu and neighbouring Haad Chao Phao on the west coast. Today the village has a daily rhythm built around practice: early classes, a long breakfast, workshops in the afternoon and a sunset at Zen Beach, where people gather most evenings for music, yoga on the sand and fire spinning.
What makes it work is density. You can walk or ride between several schools in a few minutes, try different teachers and styles in a single week, and eat well in between. Our Wok Tum and Srithanu area guide covers the village itself, from parking to the lake.

Yoga schools in Srithanu you can drop in to
Orion Healing Centre
Our most frequent recommendation for a first class. Orion is in Srithanu, about 3.7 km and 7 minutes from our villas, with two shalas: one on the beach and one surrounded by jungle. The daily schedule mixes dynamic and restorative styles, from vinyasa and hatha to yin, kundalini, meditation and yoga nidra, so you can build your own week.
There is no need to book: the centre asks students to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to get a spot. A single class is listed at 400 THB, with a 10-class pass at 3,200 THB valid for a month (as of October 2026; check before you go). Orion also has a herbal steam room, infrared sauna and ice bath, which makes it easy to turn a morning class into a half day. It runs retreats and multi-style teacher trainings too.
Samma Karuna
Samma Karuna sits on Haad Chao Phao, a couple of minutes north of central Srithanu, and has been running for more than ten years. It is the place for yoga alongside tantra, breathwork, conscious movement and dance. Daily drop-in classes run year-round, and the longer programmes range from 6- to 28-day retreat holidays (listed from USD 1,856 for 28 days as of October 2026) to yoga teacher trainings of 200 to 500 hours, plus breathwork and tantra courses.
It suits people who want to explore beyond a standard asana class. If you are new to its style, start with a daily yoga or breathwork session before committing to a longer programme.
Smaller studios around the village
Srithanu also has a rotating cast of smaller studios and independent teachers. Sati Yoga teaches Universal Yoga and vinyasa power classes in the village, with an intro pass of three sessions for 1,000 THB; it was on a seasonal break until September 2026, so check that it has reopened. Guides also list The Yoga House in Srithanu and Gaia Yogashala in nearby Hin Kong. Small studios change hours and teachers often, so look at their latest posts before you set off.
Yoga beyond the village: retreats and jungle shalas

Pyramid Yoga Center
In the jungle hills of the north-west, Pyramid is built around pyramid-shaped shalas and is known for kundalini and chakra yoga. It runs drop-in classes, meditation, sound healing in its Sound Dome, a weekly ecstatic dance, and 200- and 500-hour teacher trainings. The Conscious Kitchen serves plant-based food and kombucha, so plan to stay for lunch. It is worth the drive for the setting alone.
Wonderland Healing Center
Wonderland is a retreat centre inland from the west coast, focused on yoga, meditation, detox and fasting, with a plant-based buffet restaurant, a pool and a herbal steam sauna. Most guests come for a structured retreat with fixed start dates, and it also runs 200-hour, aerial yoga and yin teacher trainings. Non-residents can buy a Healthy Day Pass to join classes, meals and the facilities, which is a good way to try it before booking a full retreat.
Agama Yoga
Agama is one of the oldest schools on the island, founded in Srithanu in the early 2000s and known for its structured, level-based courses in hatha and tantra yoga. As of October 2026 its website says workshops are being held online while the school relocates, and it invites anyone who wants to study in person on Koh Phangan to write to them. If Agama is why you are coming, check its calendar before booking flights.
Teacher trainings
If you are coming to train, Koh Phangan has plenty of choice. Beyond the centres above, The Yoga Retreat Koh Phangan runs a 28-night, 200-hour Yoga Alliance training with daily Mysore-style practice, priced from 54,000 THB for the course alone, with published start dates of 21 February and 1 August 2027 (as of October 2026). Trainings fill early for the January to March dry season.
Drop-in classes or a retreat: how to choose
- Drop-ins suit most visitors. You keep your own pace, try several teachers and still have time for beaches, food and rest. A week of one class a day costs roughly 2,000 to 3,000 THB.
- A class pass makes sense if you settle on one school; Orion's 10-class pass works out at 320 THB a class.
- A retreat suits people who want structure: a set daily programme, meals included and a group around you. Book these in advance.
- A teacher training is a commitment of three to four weeks of full days, usually six days a week.
Many of our guests do a mix: drop-in classes for the first few days, then a weekend workshop once they have found a teacher they like.
Planning a yoga week on the west coast
Best time of day. Morning classes, usually between 07:00 and 10:00, are the coolest and most popular. Afternoon classes are hotter; yin and yoga nidra are the better choice then. Sunset is for the beach.
Best time of year. January to September is the most reliable stretch, with the driest weather roughly from February to April. October to December brings the Gulf of Thailand's rainy season, but shalas are covered and the village is calmer. Our guide to the best time to visit Koh Phangan goes month by month.
What to bring. Most schools provide mats, but a travel mat and a towel are useful. Bring a water bottle; refill stations are common in Srithanu.
Eating. Breakfast after class is part of the ritual. Indigo and Common Grounds in Srithanu are both about five minutes from Mira; our breakfast and coffee guide has the full list, and our Friends of Mira page gathers all our favourite places in one spot.
Rest days. Pair yoga with a massage, sauna or ice bath. Our wellness, spa and gym guide covers Xantiva, Orion's facilities and the best Thai massage in the village.

A sample day
- 07:30 Morning vinyasa or hatha at Orion or Samma Karuna.
- 09:30 Breakfast in Srithanu, then a smoothie for the road.
- 11:00 A swim at Haad Son or Haad Yao, the west coast's best swimming beaches, about 12 to 16 minutes from Mira (see our west coast beach guide).
- 13:00 Lunch, then a quiet afternoon by the pool.
- 16:00 Yin or yoga nidra, or a sauna and ice bath.
- 18:00 Sunset at Zen Beach or one of our favourite sunset spots.
Where to stay for a yoga trip
Staying in or near Srithanu is the single best thing you can do for a yoga holiday: early classes are easy when the shala is minutes away. The west coast also gives you sunsets, good food and quiet nights, which is what a practice week needs.
Mira is in Wok Tum, about five minutes by car from Srithanu village and eight from Thong Sala pier. Each of our six villas has its own pool, a covered terrace and sun deck, and a double-height teak living room with a sunken lounge, so there is room to roll out a mat at home, and A/C throughout for good sleep before early classes. The minimum stay is three nights, which suits a yoga week well. If that sounds right for you, you can check dates and book direct.
